How To Remove Nail Polish At Home

Gel nail is everywhere today

The sprawling working time has increasingly got in between us and the nail salon. It seems to let many girls with no choice rather than take care of their nails at home. If you have to do it, then do it the right way! All the tips that I will provide below are based on the real methods that many beauty salons are applying now. Check Nails America out and you will know for sure how to remove nail polish at home!

How To Remove Nail Polish – The Foil Wrapping Method

If you have ever had your gel nail removed at the nail salon, you will definitely find what we are going to do very familiarly.

Items that you need to prepare:

  • Acetone (better be 100% pure acetone, you can easily buy it at any drug store)
  • Cotton balls
  • Aluminum foil sheets cut into small pieces
  • A cuticle pusher or other types of instrument that does the same thing ( even a small spoon works)
  •  An emery board

How to do it?

Step 1: Use The Emery Board To File Off The Top Layer Of Your Gel Nails

It is usually the coating that makes your manicures shiny.

Step 2: Soak Cotton Pieces In Acetone.

Split cotton balls into smaller pieces. Note that they should be able to cover your fingernails. Then soak them with acetone.

Step 3: Use Cotton Pieces And Aluminum Foil Sheets To Wrap The Top Of Your Fingers.

Cover your nails with these cotton pieces and wrap the top of your fingers with foil sheets. The purpose of wrapping here is to create the closed conditions for acetone to react with the colored coat of your gel nails, so try to let air in as little as possible.

Since most of you guys are right-handed, it is much easier to start with your right hand and then do the same with your left hand. If you are left-handed, then just reverse the order!

Step 4: Now All You Have To Do Is To Patiently Wait For Acetone To Do Its Job.

The waiting time often lasts from 15 to 20 minutes. After 15 minutes, unwrap your fingers and use the cuticle pusher to gently peel off the loosened gel color.

If you still cannot remove the gel completely, then wrap it back again and wait for another 5 or 10 minutes. After that, unfold the foil and remove the remaining color.

Finally, swipe the surfaces of your nails with another acetone-soaked cotton piece. Your job is done!

Items you need to prepare:

  • A sink of warm water
  • A nail file
  • A buffing cube
  • A cuticle pusher with the thin edge

How to do it:

Step 1: Break The Seal At The Tip Of Your Fingernails With The Nail File.

When a nail tech makes a new set of manicures for you, in order to make sure that the gel will stay on there long enough, they always cap the tip of your nails. That is the reason why we need to break the seal first to get the gel off.

Step 2: Use The Buffing Cube To Lightly Buffer The Surface Of Your Nails.

Buffing will help the water to get into the gel more easily when it is soaked in warm water. If you have worn the manicure for more than a week then you can even skip this step because in this case, the adhesion of the gel polish is not too strong.

Step 3: Soak Your Fingers

Soak your fingers into the warm water and let them sit there for about 15-20 minutes.

You can also add some scented soap to make the soaking process more interesting

Step 4: Carefully Peel Off The Gel

Now at this step, you will need some peeling-off skills.

Use the cuticle pusher to peel the gel off, starting with the surrounding edge and gradually get to the inner part.

After taking off the gel, use warm water to evenly swipe the surface of our nails.

Conclusion

Yes, I know that spending hours scraping off your gel nails seems to be a good way of killing your time.  But just don’t do it! Your gel nails would not get removed that way, and they could also get damaged and become dry and brittle. Removing gel nail polish properly is to make sure that your nails are strong and always ready for new manicures.

By following the two methods I have just provided above, you can save considerable time and money spent at beauty salons but still have your gel nail polish removed with the same efficiency. Hope that you guys find this article on how to remove nail polish at home useful!
